With work, family and social responsibilities, it can be difficult to quiet our minds and fall asleep. However, a sleep trick developed by a soldier may be the answer to this problem.
In today’s fast-paced world, falling asleep can be a challenge, and daily tasks can cause insomnia. There are many sleep techniques, and the 2-minute technique originally described in the book Relax and Win: Championship Performance by Lloyd Budd Winter is said to really help.
Lloyd used this sleeping technique while in the military. Then, others began to practice it, and in recent years it has become popular among TikTok users as well.
This technique allows you to calm your body and mind, relax and relax every part of your body – from head to toe.
These are the steps:
Relax
Begin by relaxing your forehead muscles. Focus on them. Then focus on the eyes, cheeks, jaw and breathing.
Then work your way down to your neck and shoulders. Make sure your shoulders are not tense. Lower them as low as you can and keep your arms relaxed by your sides.
Then imagine warmth going from the top of your head to your fingertips.
Begin to breathe deeply, relaxing the muscles from the chest down to the feet, then again imagine the heat throughout the body, but this time from the heart to the toes.
Breathe
Make sure your shoulders and arms stay relaxed. You looked deeply, exhaling slowly. Do this several times.
Clear your mind
Now, while you’re doing this, it’s really important to clear your mind of any stresses.
Imagine one of these two scenarios: Lying in a meadow surrounded by clear lake water or lying alone in a room.
While you’re imagining it, if you start thinking about something else, repeat these words for 10 seconds: “Don’t think. Don’t think. “Don’t think.”
This technique may sound too good to be true. But according to Dr. Sanjiv Kotare , a sleep specialist and chief of pediatric neurology at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New York, it’s possible to train yourself to fall asleep faster using this technique.
He also advises:
“Don’t try to sleep when you’re not tired. You have to get physically tired. If your body is not tired, it is normal not to fall asleep early. Give your body what it needs.
Of course, this does not apply to the armed forces who are trying to sleep in stressful times. Also, associate the bed only with sleep. If you want to read a book, read somewhere else in the home.
“Never watch TV before going to bed, and especially don’t eat in the bedroom, because then you associate the bed with the kitchen and food, which has nothing to do with sleep.”
