Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • Pinches of salt and pepper
  • 4 slices of sturdy white bread
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • ½ pound thick-sliced baked ham
  • ½ ounce shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Powdered sugar, honey, preserves (optional, for topping)

Instructions:

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Spread mustard on two slices of bread and mayonnaise on the other two slices.
  3. Layer ham and Gruyere cheese evenly on the slices with mustard.
  4. Place the other slices of bread on top to form sandwiches.
