According to cardiologist Harmony Reynolds, you may maintain a healthy heart without avoiding things like bacon or chips. Instead, practice moderation and whenever possible, choose a healthier option.
It is difficult to always eat healthfully, and it is useless to try to absolutely restrict ourselves from enjoying certain harmful foods.
It is far better to develop a moderating attitude and, simply, avoid overindulging in certain foods.
American cardiologist Harmony Reynolds tells Insider which foods she avoids or consumes in moderation to maintain heart health.
She makes the point that while you can still like certain meals, you should attempt to eat them less frequently and choose better options instead.
What meals does Harmony abstain from?
Coconut and margarined oil
According to Harmony, she rarely eats margarine because certain foods may be hazardous for the health of the heart, according to some research.
Since coconut oil also contains saturated fat, it falls within the category of foods with which we should exercise moderation. Olive oil is an excellent oil substitute.
Chips
Nearly everyone likes chips, and Harmony herself takes pleasure in these foods.
She claims, however, that she stays away from the store because she lacks self-control and eats little.
There’s no way I’m going to eat some chips and shove the other guy aside since I know myself so well.
And in this situation, it’s crucial to exercise restraint. Feel free to eat some chips, but don’t consume the entire bag.
Popcorn is an excellent option, according to Harmony, if you’re looking for a healthier snack.
Bacon
We are all aware that bacon contains a lot of fat and should be consumed in moderation.
Although Harmony claims to adore the flavor of bacon, she tries to save eating it for special occasions.
“No one can maintain a perfect diet. It’s crucial to understand that occasionally you need to reward yourself, and that if you absolutely forbid yourself from eating a certain cuisine, you’re not doing yourself any favors.
I believe it’s best to err on the side of moderation and, whenever possible, swap out fatty foods for healthier options.”
Substitute dark chocolate for other treats
We all enjoy cookies, cakes, and donuts, but we also know that these sweets are loaded with sugar and bad fats, which can harm our hearts.
Harmony suggests moderation with everything else on this list as well.
Harmony advises choosing dark chocolate if you feel like you’ve overindulged in sweets but are still desiring something light.
You don’t have to fully give up sweet sweets either, of course:
“I take one mouthful when I want to taste something at a party that I know isn’t particularly nutritious. I allow myself to indulge more if I genuinely enjoy it. I try not to eat any more if the flavor is not particularly memorable to me.
