What Is Cube Steak
Cube steak is a beef that is usually cut from the top round, usually from the shoulder or hind quarters of the cow. It is a tougher cut of meat, that they tenderize by pounding the meat and leaving indentations. This process is called cubing, and how the meat gets its name.
It is often used to make chicken fried steak in the United States. But it can be used for so much more!

Recipe Tips & Suggestions
- Help control the sodium in your recipe by using a low or no sodium beef broth and make your own Homemade Onion Soup Mix.
- If your gravy is not thickening, you can up the heat to high or even pour it into a saucepan and heat over the stove for just a couple of minutes.
- If you love mushrooms, feel free to add more! They cook down just like sauteed mushrooms, so if everyone you are serving love mushrooms, you may want more.
- It is best if you use thawed cube steak. It is cut very thin, so it usually thaws very quickly. You can leave it in the fridge overnight, or even on the counter for just a couple of hours.
